  1.        DB101U - Dashboard for Windows 1.01 Update  10/20/92

  3. Applicable Versions
  4. ===================

  6. This patch is applicable to Dashboard for Windows 1.0 (US English)
  7. ONLY and can NOT be used for later or other language versions of 
  8. Dashboard.  The patch is implemented using .RTPatch software from 
  9. PocketSoft, which updates Dashboard 1.0 files to version 1.01.  
  10. This patch updates an INSTALLED system, it will NOT update the 
  11. Dashboard installation disk.

  13. Installing the 1.01 patch
  14. =========================
  15.  
  16. Once you have run the self-extracting file DB101U.EXE, you will see
  17. the following files:

  25. To update an installed copy of Dashboard 1.0 (US English) to version
  26. 1.01, perform the following:
  27.  
  28.   o Shut down Dashboard and Windows.  
  29.   
  30.   o Go into the directory where PATCH.EXE and DB101U.RTP are located, 
  31.     and update your Dashboard directory using the following syntax:
  32.  
  33.        SYNTAX:   PATCH <patchfilename> <targetdirectory>
  34.   
  35.     For example, if Dashboard is located in C:\DASH, you would use:
  36.  
  37.        PATCH DB101U C:\DASH
  38.  
  39.   o If any problem occurs during the patch process, the patch program 
  40.     will UNDO any updates it makes, leaving your Dashboard files in 
  41.     their original state.  If an update fails due to low disk space 
  42.     (less than 1MB free), you should backup your 1.0 Dashboard files 
  43.     to a floppy and then patch Dashboard using the /NOUNDO feature 
  44.     to immediately update the directory, and not make temporary 
  45.     backout files.

  50. What's changed in 1.01
  51. ======================
  52.  
  53. Changes were made to make the fonts larger for users using Hi-Res
  54. screen resolutions (800x600, 1024x768 or above).  Dashboard now uses 
  55. a seven-point font in all cases.  Additionally, an option to use a 
  56. bold typeface can be added to DASH.INI (see the README.ADV file after 
  57. the update).  Dashboard now reads icons correctly when changing 
  58. screen resolution, such as going from VGA to SVGA.
  59.    
  60. The F1-F12 keys used to bring Dashboard to the front conflicts with 
  61. some application accelerators.  Dashboard now allows F13 through F16 
  62. to be used to bring Dashboard to the front.  Since most keyboards do 
  63. not have these keys, using these values essentially turns off the 
  64. feature.  The next full release of Dashboard will be more robust in 
  65. this area.

  67. Fixes were made to resolve GPF issues (General Protection Faults) that 
  68. could occur with some applications.  Other changes were made to allow 
  69. Dashboard to work better with debugging versions of Windows and make 
  70. extended screens and the load layout function work better with 
  71. HP NewWave.

  73. The ability to have Dashboard automatically load a layout file has
  74. been a highly requested feature, and will appear in the next full
  75. release of Dashboard.
