DB101U - Dashboard for Windows 1.01 Update 10/20/92
Applicable Versions
===================
This patch is applicable to Dashboard for Windows 1.0 (US English)
ONLY and can NOT be used for later or other language versions of
Dashboard. The patch is implemented using .RTPatch software from
PocketSoft, which updates Dashboard 1.0 files to version 1.01.
This patch updates an INSTALLED system, it will NOT update the
Dashboard installation disk.
Installing the 1.01 patch
=========================
Once you have run the self-extracting file DB101U.EXE, you will see
the following files:
README 3105 10-20-92 1.01a - This file
NOTICE 1793 10-20-92 1.01a - Disclaimer
PATCH EXE 76981 10-20-92 1.01a - RTPatch program
DB101U RTP 63674 10-20-92 1:01a - Update file
To update an installed copy of Dashboard 1.0 (US English) to version
1.01, perform the following:
o Shut down Dashboard and Windows.
o Go into the directory where PATCH.EXE and DB101U.RTP are located,
and update your Dashboard directory using the following syntax:
SYNTAX: PATCH <patchfilename> <targetdirectory>
For example, if Dashboard is located in C:\DASH, you would use:
PATCH DB101U C:\DASH
o If any problem occurs during the patch process, the patch program
will UNDO any updates it makes, leaving your Dashboard files in
their original state. If an update fails due to low disk space
(less than 1MB free), you should backup your 1.0 Dashboard files
to a floppy and then patch Dashboard using the /NOUNDO feature
to immediately update the directory, and not make temporary
backout files.
EXAMPLE: PATCH DB101U C:\DASH /NOUNDO
What's changed in 1.01
======================
Changes were made to make the fonts larger for users using Hi-Res
screen resolutions (800x600, 1024x768 or above). Dashboard now uses
a seven-point font in all cases. Additionally, an option to use a
bold typeface can be added to DASH.INI (see the README.ADV file after
the update). Dashboard now reads icons correctly when changing
screen resolution, such as going from VGA to SVGA.
The F1-F12 keys used to bring Dashboard to the front conflicts with
some application accelerators. Dashboard now allows F13 through F16
to be used to bring Dashboard to the front. Since most keyboards do
not have these keys, using these values essentially turns off the
feature. The next full release of Dashboard will be more robust in
this area.
Fixes were made to resolve GPF issues (General Protection Faults) that
could occur with some applications. Other changes were made to allow
Dashboard to work better with debugging versions of Windows and make
extended screens and the load layout function work better with
HP NewWave.
The ability to have Dashboard automatically load a layout file has
been a highly requested feature, and will appear in the next full
release of Dashboard.
